» — Gilles Duceppe

Election Night in Canada

For those of you who didn't see the Rick Mercer Report tonight -> www.rickmercer.com

The polls are closing and results will start pouring in. As far as I was able to understand, this was a Majority campaign. We aren't choosing a new government, only whether we want the Conservatives as Majority or for them to remain a minority. In my opinion they have allot of work to do before I'd be willing to hand over the reins to Prime Minister Harper, completely. As always I voted Bloc, especially this time, as the Bloc seems the only party to hold head to the PM and have an opportunity to block a majority gov. I won't even get into my views of the Liberal party since Prime Minister Chretien left the scene, let's just say they've taken a great party and a great nation and turned it to......Capitaine Dijon will def. not get to be PM, Mr. Layton has good intentions and I wish he was in another party, but Gilles Ducepe is Quebec's only choice, especially considering the recent attacks on culture.

Nudder weekly update!

So it was an interesting week of rediscovery for me,
I installed (as you probably read in older posts) Ubuntu 8.04 lts and it works wonderfully.
I'd forgotten how simple it is to use and the Voice Control really adds a new dimension to computing. I love talking to my computer, at least now it's not weird anymore, it actual y listens.
I installed a new themes called SlicknesS Black which is much easier on my eyes, but the web hasn't caught up ti Linux yet so it makes pages look a little bizarre, but you get used to it after a while. It's also helping with my typing because one of the main feature I like about Linux in the Command Prompt (Terminal)..

Lot's of fun this week!

Fun day discovering Ubuntu and relishing in the Open Source community

WooHoo!
I'd forgotten of of the major advantages of the application libraries.
Isn't great to have thousands of free software at your finger tips.
No more hassles about downloading huge files or BUYING software, simple click and run.
I don't even have to reboot my computer, EVER; for any reason...
It doesn't crash, it doesn't slow down, it doesn't need rebooting, it never gets a virus and, best of all, it runs on ANY computer, running ANY hardware. If your computer is less than 5 yrs old Linux will automatically install them, without prompting. If it can't find a "driver" (they're not call drivers in Linux), sometimes the program will automatically create one based on it's analysis of the hardware components.

Batman the Dark Knight

I found this link to the Dark Knight (Batman Movie)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Perfectly Suited to my needs...

I'm really enjoying this new Ubuntu OS and it has all the programs I need included.
Only thing missing was a GOOD html editor, but I found one, free, in the add applications section. All in all I'm glad to be back to Linux, although I would have liked to see better and more impressive desktop enhancements..

I rate this Linux distribution -> 8/10 (2 points off for long boot time.

I can't wait to start playing with Gimp again, it's a great Graphics software. And I can't wait to try the 3d desktop, but I'll need to change my graphics adapter first.

If you all want to try this OS out get it for free at ubuntu.org

Settled for Ubuntu 8... Seamless Install

Well my Ubuntu installations went very well. Since I started the installs on 3 machines at the same time, they prompted me for action pretty much all at the same time. I spent less than 10 minutes total setting up the first two. The third was a bit slower but it's installed an running. In the mean time, I ate, watch the Soprano's and went out to buy cigarettes. It beats babysitting Windows Installations and hassles.

Next post will be coming from my New Ubuntu desktop..
Next step, Ubuntu Server, can't wait.....

Back to my roots, gonna give Ubuntu 7.1 a twirl..

I'm sure my family remembers when i foresaked Microsoft and windows back in 2002. I spent 3-4 yrs using Mandrake and Red Hat, then Fedora and also debian and Lindows!
I love Linux and I don't really remember why or when I switched back to windows, but here I am again; looking at three failed XP computers. I am desperate to get at least one of my laptops running again with Win XP, since I need to recover my password from my Dreamweaver Site Manager. One of my laptops is running Linspire 4.5, which has been abandoned by CNR and a forced migration to L6 is coming. That make it 4 PC's with no OS and a whole lot of mistrust for Windows. I thought earlier, that this was my opportunity to try the new Win Vista, but after investigation it seem i9t's not worth shi..

So I have a dilema, I can install my old Win XP w/ service pack 1a and do all the uploads, then I have to install my antivirus, which dates from 2006 so the updates will take days, not hours. Then I have to download and install Service pack and then again sp3. I have to reinsall my Firefox, thunderbird, coreftp, and Dreamweaver. All this, spread on 4 pc's will take the rest of the week.

Or I can install Ubuntu or Mandriva or Fedora, Spend 20 minits configuring and go to the movies tonight, instead of becomingbleary eyed and frustrated, while install of win XP fail and have to restarted and spending hours browsing for drivers.

My choice fell on Ubuntu, I'll be installing the Ubuntu Server edition on my my Dual processor server that is running (was) Windows 2003 Server and the others will get a fresh install of the Ubuntu Desktop OS.. Sounds like I'll be done in about an hour, so I'll post my progress here later on..

Très bel exemple...

Long time no Blog....

It's been awhile.
Not much to say; it rains everyday. I had Adri this weekend despite the schedule,
Looking to buy a new car and spending lot's of time catching up on the news.
Looks like the world changed quite a bit these last few months...
American presidential, Canadian Elections, the Georgian conflict (again), Somalian Piracy, Financial Crisis, Hurricane IKE then KYLE, riots in Montreal, terrorist bombings all over the world and let's not forget the horrible devastating earthquake in China. I guess when it comes in little bits through the daily news you don't notice how many things have happened, but when you try to catch up; it looks like a f.ing disaster!
Gotta admit these are interesting times and now is the time to be alive and witness the tides turning in society. We are all witnessing the changing of the world as we know it, isn't that what all those prophecies say anyways!!!

Up early on Saturday, had a couple hours to spare.

Hey y'all, so yeah, I woke up early on Saturday and had a couple of hours to spare.
I pulled up my Photoshop and decided to do some planets. I haven't done planets since the early day of Myst and here I am 15 years later having fun with what used to earn me $$.

Thought I would post it here, it's kindda goofy and low res but it looks good, the lighting is off but hey, what can you do with only an hour or two.

Then there's the others I had fun with after supper, those were more detailed and took a little longer, but still; the lighting is off...guess I'm outta practise.

I did this one with Gimp.27 just to get some mix going;

Three Weeks without the kid!

Tonight marks the first night of a three week hiatus (19 days) from having Adri.
Claudie needed the weekend off so we switched, which means she has him two weekends in a row.
Now that we have a schedule it's easier for me to get out of town and live a little. The summer in Mt-Laurier was just too long, mucky and boring. I can't wait to be outta here!!!
I'm driving to Montreal tomorrow to check out some used cars, I need to change my van... It's tried to kill me several times. LOL...

Maybe I'll drive to NY sometime soon, I'm in dire need of some entertainment. It'll also be fun to catch up with an old friend from PR while I'm there. I really can't wait to get out of here.

Ok so it's obvious, I can't wait to get outta HERE!!!!!!

Sleepy Sunday Blog

Sunday morning blogging. I guess I could be using my time more creatively, but hey, it's Sunday. Adrien is playing Sly on he PS2 and I'm having a morning coffee, checking out my sites and cleaning up the accumulated junk in my Facebook profile.
I've set up some new business blogs this week -> Wireless Central & firemail Web 2.0. You can check them out through my blogger profile. Wireless Central is a big disappointment I have 30 shop running (+ all the maintenance that goes with) and I've only managed to make one sale and attract only 2 new partners...in three months!

Oh well, I guess WC will go the wayside and I will concentrate on firemail.ca instead. Firemail is my baby so I can't really give THAT up.

Lazy, lazy Sunday in store....

Little bit of business to mention.

Some of you may have noticed I have allot on my plate these days, what with the re-design and deployment of firemail.ca come up, as well as 30 Wireless shops to run. I'm running out of time and energy for it all so I'm planning a big push this week. Gonna spend 18hr days coding to get a bunch of little bugs out of the way. Not to mention that I've been promising a release of my plugins for @mailOpen since july!!!!

I hope all my friends and family will follow my links and share my posts on Facebook... It's easy; that little share button is everywhere.............

New Year, New Teacher, More Work, More Fun....

So there was a PT meeting tonight and I finally got to meet Adri's new teacher. She seems nice and she's enthusiastic about teaching 1&2 together...
There was a General Assembly with the principal and school nurse as well. It seeems they are making significant effort to improve reading skills and they have an intensive reading program, which will be good for Adri I'm sure.. He reads very well in english and can decipher the words in French so he should have a good time this year.
The school (Notre Dame des Anges) has a "cote" 10 (millieu défavorisé) which means it's got the worst rating there is, but I'm confident in my own parenting and education skills to get him through the tough spots...
Anyways it's a small school so the teachers can develop close relationships with their students.

Long Day with a Cranky Kid.

Well today was a long and tiring day with Adri.
He was contrary about everything all day.

He has no friends here so it is very difficult to keep him entertained, + I have other things to do as well. Life goes on despite!

But I also had to go shopping, take him for a hair cut and I also had to go to the SAAQ. I don't advise anybody go to the SAAQ with their kids! Anyways, first full day in 1st grade tomorrow, so he's off with his mom and they have a BBQ planned this weekend so I won't be seeing him till next week on friday.

Have great weekend all! I'm sticking around Mt-Laurier and doing some yard work. Summer is finally here!!!! :)

Great first half day in 1st Grade for Adri

Well Adri came home in a good mood.
He was really glad to see his classmates and get to know his new teacher.
He complained the day was too short, he would have liked to play some more with Sandi; his longtime girlfriend. His class is mixed with 2nd grade (school is too small) so there are about 15 kids in his class this year. He'll be learning fast I'm sure. + this they get to play on the monkey bars so he's very excited.... The little acrobat!

First day of Elementary

Well Adri was off to school today. Half day to start the new school year.
He has a whole day on Friday and then it's Full Time after Labor Day!

Am off to the lake to pick him up.....
We will go have some fun and celebrate this special day!

See ya,

The Maltese Falcon - 155mil USD

Turning up the juice on FB

Hi guys,

I've been learning about Facebook now for about 4 months and I've developed a few simple apps that are designed for world travelers and expats...

Please bear with as I describe the individual apps and my reasoning behind some of the more dramatic modifications of the last few days.

Wireless Central - Worldwide Prepaid Telecommunication Solutions

http://apps.new.facebook.com/ppwireless

I'll start with this app because it was my first and most complex FB app.
Basically I eliminated all the headers in one of my shops :

http://facebook.pushline.com

Then I created a FB header and called the shop throuhg some simple PHP routines.
I modified the fb:tabs function so each tab would reflect the users current location in the site...

Here is a list of my Wireless Shops online;

http://llamocaribe.pushline.com
http://sfbay.pushline.com
http://army.pushline.com

Firemail
- My pet project since 2005....

http://www.firemail.ca

http://webmail.firemail.ca
http://apps.new.facebook.com/fbatmail

Ok, well this is my little baby.
I've been dreaming of having a Free Email Service for Canada to compete with Hotmail, Yahho, Gtalk, etc... since 1999, when I bought baluchon.net (http://www.baluchon.net).

Over the years I've tried many different formulas and scripts on firmail and baluchon alike.
From Hordemail with Hordebridge to Neomail to RoundCube to Atmail, i've tried them all.
I wasted time with outlook for Win server 2003, lost allot of hours on RC and finally ended up with @mailOpen, which is an Open Souce email software distributed under the Apache 2.0 license.

After several tweaks I'm finally ready to release Alpha 1.1 on firemail.ca.

Hope you enjoy,

Long 1 for a first post!
